The large scale structure of the soft X - ray background III . Cosmological implications

چکیده
The auto-correlation function of the X-ray background in the range of angular scales 0. ◦3–20◦ is determined using the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. In the power-law approximation, our best fit estimate is w(θ) = (0. ◦0058/θ)1.1. At the small separation end, this is substantially above previous estimates based on ROSAT pointings. The present upward revision of the correlation amplitude results from variations in the background intensity at angular scales larger than the field of view of the X-ray telescope. Various assumptions for the local clustering amplitude, clustering evolution rate and luminosity/density evolution of the sources producing the background are explored, and the predicted auto-correlation functions compared with the measured fluctuations. We show that the large amplitude of the background angular auto-correlation function is incompatible with the weak clustering amplitude observed for normal galaxies, while it is marginally compatible with some measurements of the AGN clustering amplitude at moderate redshifts.

X-ray Sources as Tracers of the Large-scale Structure in the Universe
We review the current status of studies of large-scale structure in the X-ray Universe. After motivating the use X-rays for cosmological purposes, we discuss the various approaches used on different angular scales including X-ray background multipoles, cross-correlations of the X-ray background with galaxy catalogues, clustering of X-ray selected sources and small-scale fluctuations and anisotr...

I present an overview of some of the recent advances in our understanding of the distribution and evolution of the ordinary, baryonic matter in the universe. Two observations that strongly suggest that most of the baryons seen at high redshift (z ≥ 2) have turned into some forms yet undetected at z = 0 are highlighted. With the aid of large-scale cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, it is sho...

An octahedral cobalt(III) complex, trans-[(Me2bpb)Co(bzlan)2]ClO4 (1), with H2Me2bpb = N,N’-(4,5-dimethyl-1,2-phenylene)dipicolinamide and bzlan = benzylamine, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The structure of this complex has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The Me2bpb2– is a di-anionic tetradentate ligand furnishing a ...
متن کاملThe Large-scale Structure of the X-ray Background and Its Cosmological Implications
A careful analysis of the HEAO1 A2 2− 10 keV full-sky map of the X-ray background (XRB) reveals clustering on the scale of several degrees. After removing the contribution due to beam smearing, the intrinsic clustering of the background is found to be consistent with an auto-correlation function of the form 3.6± 0.9× 10θ where θ is measured in degrees. If current AGN models of the hard XRB are ...

We review cosmological inference from galaxy surveys at low and high redshifts, with emphasis on new Southern sky surveys. We focus on several issues: (i) The importance of understanding selection effects in catalogues and matching Northern and Southern surveys; (ii) The 2dF galaxy redshift survey of 250,000 galaxies (iii) The proposed 6dF redshift and peculiar velocity survey of near-infrared ...
